We discuss the hub-&-spoke system design problem together with a¨ number of popular networking policies and effects of continuous¨ scale economies, demand and market domination. Several variations of¨ the problem along with various aspects of air passenger and cargo¨ transportation systems are considered. Computational results will be¨ presented.

In many transportation and telecommunication networks, flows are¨ concentrated on certain arcs and through certain nodes to take¨ advantage of economies of scale. We explore the design of these¨ networks and the location and role of hub facilities in these¨ networks.

Hub-&-spoke systems arise when it is advantageous to consolidate¨ flows at certain accumulation points in many-to-many distribution¨ networks. We focus on modeling aspects of the hub network design¨ problem and identify features that lead to alternate forms of¨ analysis.
