JOINT INTERNATIONAL MEETING BETWEEN EURO AND INFORMS
(EURO-XV / INFORMS-XXXIV)

Barcelona, Spain, July 14-17, 1997

The 1997 joint international meeting between EURO and INFORMS will be held in Barcelona, one of the major cities of Spain and the Mediterranean basin, from July 14-17, 1997. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, a dynamic industrial region with a rich and vibrant cultural heritage. The conference site will be the new and modern campus of the Catalonia Politechnical University.

Theme: OR/MS for the new millennium

OR/MS are two interdisciplinary areas strongly dependent on the societal and economic challenges of the real world as they are concerned with the way of organizing our social or economic systems as well as with the design and the selection of the most convenient courses of action.

OR/MS will face new opportunities and challenges in the 21st century. Increasingly globalization of all enterprises with high levels of competition across all industry sectors are forcing managers and leaders to change their decision making processes and methods. At the same time organizational structures need to change to provide for greater cooperation and collaboration on a global basis.

Sessions, Workshops and Tutorials

Preliminary invited sessions are being arranged. We welcome further suggestions for topics of invited sessions. These proposals should contain the title of the session, a list of five speakers and titles of their papers, together with abstracts completed according to the general instructions. Suggestions for panel discussions are also welcome, especially those that relate to the theme of the meeting, e.g., OR/MS Education in the 21st Century. We will endeavour to provide facilities for groups to work together on topics of interest, and to include these in the program. If you are willing to organize one of these, please contact the Conference Secretariat by November 30, 1996.

Special presentations are being solicited from prominent researchers. Also, tutorials on current OR/MS advances are being arranged; we welcome suggestions for tutorial topics and tutorial speakers.

Contributed Papers

Authors wishing to contribute papers are requested to submit an abstract of no more than 100 words, not later than November 30, 1996. A paper will only be considered if a fee of $75 is included with the abstract.

Publications

Abstracts of all papers to be presented at the conference will be published in advance of the conference. Issues of the European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR), the International Transactions in Operations Research (ITOR), and the Journal of the Spanish OR Society (TOP) will be reserved for publication of the most relevant papers presented at the conference. Authors are encouraged to prepare full papers for submission to these journals. All submitted papers will be refereed. Submission details and deadlines will be included in the Invitation Program.

Software and Book Exhibition

Commercial exhibitors are invited to show books and computer software that have relevance to OR/MS practice and problem solving methodology. Potential exhibitors should contact the conference secretariat.

Abstract submission instructions

Printable submission form.

Submit three copies of a single page, in English, with the following information typed. Do not include any mathematical notation.

1. Paper title; 2. Abstract (100 word limit); 3. Author(s) family name(s), first name(s), organization(s) and full mailing address(es). The author presenting the paper should be listed first or underlined.

Send the copies with a check or money order for $75 payable to EURO/INFORMS-97 to the Conference Secretariat at the address given below. Visa or Mastercard payments are accepted; include the card number, expiration date and a signature on one submission page. The abstract fee will be subtracted from the conference registration fee. Submission should be received by November 30. Abstract fee is not refundable after April 30, 1997.
