Local Host: SADIO, Sociedad Argentina de Informática

We invite members of ALIO, INFORMS and the worldwide OR/MS community to join us in Buenos Aires in June 2010 for the ALIO-INFORMS International Meeting. This joint conference consists of the INFORMS International Conference and XV CLAIO, the biannual conference organized by ALIO.

Since their inception, operations research/management science tools have helped solve problems in many industries, yet OR/MS has much more to offer society in its efforts to sustain economic growth while using resources efficiently. There are always new challenges for using OR/MS techniques in non-traditional domains.

At ALIO-INFORMS 2010, attendees will exchange ideas on topics such as services, logistics and transportation,  manufacturing, supply chain management, environment, natural resources, biotechnology, and healthcare. The meeting intends also to emphasize the importance of the relationship between basic research and the practice of OR/MS.

The academic program will consist of parallel sessions, plenary talks and tutorials covering many aspects of OR/MS and it will offer a forum for intellectual exchange between participants of all the countries of Latin and North America, as well as from other regions around the world.

The conference will be held at the Law School of Buenos Aires University (Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de Buenos Aires) located inside a park, at Recoleta, the most elegant district in the city and one of the areas most visited by tourists.  Our conference venue is close to many shops, galleries, several museums, the National Library and some of the best restaurants in the city. The general reception will be held at a well-known tango ballroom in Puerto Madero, the newest modern district of Buenos Aires.

We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to tour Buenos Aires’s many wonderful neighborhoods and sights, and perhaps to spend a few days exploring some of the other beautiful cities and natural beauties of Argentina. Buenos Aires is an alive, dynamic, modern city and one of the biggest in the world.  The visitor feels fascinated by its environment, the different styles of its neighborhoods, the warmth of its people, and the wide range of cultural and commercial choices offered. Tango is well-known as the typical music of Buenos Aires, but you will also find many styles of musical shows, dozens of theaters, any type of restaurant you can name, and a very vibrant nightlife. Long coffee shop chats and football (soccer) also have an important place in people’s daily lives.

And this city is the heart of Argentina, a vast country that offers many different attractive landscapes. From the snow-capped peaks of the Andes and the vineyards nearby to the whispering plains of Patagonia or the glaciers at the very south, Argentina never fails to amaze. You may explore the rainforest of Misiones and visit the impressive Iguazú Falls, or visit the multicolored mountains at Humahuaca close to the northwestern border of the country, or watch the whales and a wide variety of other protected native wildlife in Puerto Madryn. You can also enjoy skiing or trekking near lakes and the evergreen forests in Bariloche or participate in traditional gaucho festivities in the fertile pampas.

We look forward to seeing you in Buenos Aires!
