Best of the Best: The Franz Edelman Competition
Sponsored by the College on the Practice of Management Science, the Practice Section of INFORMS

Six organizations will compete for the 2002 Franz Edelman Award, vying for honors as the most outstanding examples of operations research work in practice. Criteria for the $10,000 first prize emphasize projects with verifiable results that had major impacts on the client organizations.

From the Roundtable
The INFORMS Roundtable is a cooperative group of business leaders who represent their organizations’ commitment to the effective application of OR technology. Several sessions sponsored by the Roundtable give you a high-level look at the latest applications.

Bring a supply of business cards!

-Social and meal functions are part of the program, included in your registration fee, and designed to encourage interaction.

-Birds-of-a-Feather Discussion Groups, Monday May 20, 5:30pm-6:30pm
These informal but spirited discussion groups were a highlight of the 2001 conference and we’re bringing them back this year. Over beer, soda and munchies, we invite you to relax and get engaged in good conversation around thought-provoking topics. Advisory Council members and conference speakers facilitate the groups.

We welcome your suggestions on topics. What are the issues in your work, in your company and in our discipline that keep you awake at night? What questions would you like to sound out with colleagues, getting some candid advice and opinions? Let us know your ideas at meetings@informs.org (telephone: 800-343-0062 or 401-274-2525).

-Special Discussion
The OR Entrepreneur
5:30-6:30pm
Facilitator: Thomas M. Cook, PhD
Lots of companies, large and small, have an OR entrepreneur behind them. Have you founded an OR-based company? Do you have a start-up in the planning--or the idea--stages? Tom Cook, INFORMS President-Elect and long-time entrepreneur, will facilitate a discussion about the challenges, struggles and satisfactions of going the entrepreneurial route. Bring your experiences, opinions and ideas.
