Energizing the Future

Austin, Texas

Austin, the capital of Texas and the Live Music Capital of the World, is continually ranked as one of the most livable cities in the U.S. We're home to a singer named Willie, a cyclist named Lance and a Longhorn steer named Bevo. With a unique atmosphere that celebrates a colorful history, a diversity of cultures, a font of creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit, there is something here for everyone.

The theme of the meeting, Energizing the Future, recognizes one of the most pressing challenges that planners, analysts and technologists face in securing the quality of life that we have come to expect. There will be a rich variety of talks, panels and tutorials that address these and many other challenges our community is so well placed to tackle. Healthcare delivery, the environment, sustainability and e-commerce are some of the critical topics that will be highlighted. The combination of a great location, an expansive program and top-notch speakers ensures an invaluable experience.

Austin SkylineThe meeting will take place at the Austin Convention Center, a premier 60-room facility with the added bonus of complimentary wireless Internet, and the Hilton Austin, a first-class hotel adjacent to the Center. For those whose schedule allows, we have lined up a number of trips to local manufacturers as well as several museum and outdoor tours.

After hours, attendees will be free to enjoy the excitement of downtown with its comedy clubs and 100 live music venues, all drawing crowds seven days a week. You will be just steps away from the famous Sixth Street and Warehouse Districts, which offer fine dining in four-star restaurants as well as down-home barbecue and authentic Tex-Mex cuisine. For a change of pace you can stroll or jog along beautiful Lady Bird Lake or you can join the crowd congregating on its shores to watch as 1.5 million Mexican free-tail bats take flight in search of their evening dinner.
On behalf of the organizing committee, I invite the worldwide OR/MS community to join us in Austin.
