A Word from the General Chair

Surrounded by a lush green landscape punctuated by two volcanic peaks, Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, unfolds a remarkable backdrop of modern architecture that pays tribute to historic Chinese and Japanese influences while also embracing new technological and ecological advancements. One of the leading global cities in the production of high technology and its components, Taipei is also home to an exciting nightlife, the highlight of which are its many night markets full of shopping and entertainment options.

It is in this vibrant setting that academic and industry leaders from across Asia, Europe, the U.S. and more will gather to share the latest research and advances in the growing relationship between analytics and operations research and artificial intelligence. The 2018 INFORMS International Conference in Taipei, offers participants a full range of presentations, panels and interactive sessions that explore emerging technology and applications in A.I. including agriculture, industry, healthcare and retail.

The logo created for this meeting was crafted with an eye to the future with a nod to the past. The round shape of the logo symbolizes the earth, as this international meeting will draw attendees worldwide. A pattern depicting neural networks forms the background, also bringing to mind computer and transportation networks. It also gives the illusion of the filagree work that can be found on many temples in Taipei. The pattern is overlaid with a simple version of a plum blossom, Taiwan’s national flower.

We invite you to join us in 2018!
