You may have noticed the green “Let’s Do Stuff!” and the “Doing Stuff!” badge ribbons at the conference. These are part of President Ed Kaplan’s campaign to use operations research and analytics to make good things happen. Ed’s campaign fits perfectly with my favorite initiative – Pro Bono Analytics®. A perfect way to do good stuff is to volunteer some of your time to help a nonprofit agency working for underserved populations and in underserved areas. Pro Bono Analytics helps to match INFORMS members with nonprofit agencies that could benefit from improved analytics. Projects underway, or about to start, include helping a shelter for homeless women in Boston improve their analytics, scheduling job assistance training for autistic teenagers in New Jersey, and working with an agency in Kenya to define different dimensions of human vulnerability. Representatives for Pro Bono Analytics will be at the INFORMS booth during the Welcome Reception Sunday night, and at various times on Monday and Tuesday. Please stop by and talk with us to find out how you can start doing stuff to help nonprofits!
