I’m a 43-year-old data scientist at the University of Washington Medical Center in the Advanced Analytics group in Seattle, WA. I am also a CAP. Help me by answering a couple of questions, then keep scrolling to learn a little more about me.
Python, R, SQL, develops and applies computational algorithms and statistical methods to healthcare data (including, but not limited to data from electronic medical records, financial management, human resources, quality and supply chain) to support UWMC clinical, operations, and business initiatives and priorities. I am a proud CAP.
I want to find a Chief Analytics Officer position in the next 5 years. Also figuring out achieving the whole work/life balance thing. I have two daughters, 12 and 14, and creating quality time with them is so important at this point in their lives.
2020 Annual Meeting Goals
My main goals are to find current CAOs and talk with them about what their career paths included to get to their positions, attend the HAS and Analytics Society business meetings, and spend time reconnecting with my colleagues. After all this time apart, it’ll be great to feel a sense of connectedness with all my fellow analytics nerds. I love that my work lets me make a real difference in the world by optimizing the patient experience and Annual Meeting is always a great place to find similarly minded people.
Additionally, I always get excited learning about the new research and applications in my field. This year, I’m planning to focus on text mining with regards to NLP and the new applications of analytics in the healthcare field and other scheduling applications and software.
What’s hard right now?
The enormity of the Black Lives Matter movement and the current political environment. It gives me hope, but is still a scary thing. I want to protect my family and provide for them but I’ve faced my share of microaggressions at work and don’t want to be seen as rocking the boat.
Bright green is the color of hope.
What do you always have with you?
I’ve been addicted to Blistex since junior high, carry it with me everywhere. That and my work badge/lanyard.
Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.
I’m a big foodie and brew my own beer. I’ve been a Seahawks season ticket holder, here’s hoping I can be again for the next one. Go Hawks! I enjoy reading biographies, especially those of innovators.
