Pro Bono Analytics at INFORMS
Thanks to the generosity of our members and the hard work of the INFORMS marketing staff, we raised $7,000 or so for our “microvolunteering” activity this year. We are partnering with Star of Hope, a local nonprofit, to provide small toiletry kits, along with cards of encouragement, to their clientele, who are homeless. The cards provide a personal touch that, we are told, means a great deal to the recipients.
The next step in the process is to assemble the ingredients into kits (in plastic bags), write the cards, and combine them. If you have the time and inclination, please stop by our table, in the INFORMS Center (near the exhibitor booths), put a kit together and write a note. (We have some writing guidelines in case you’re not sure what to say.)
Also, if you’re not yet a volunteer but interested, there’s a panel session (SD44) on Pro Bono Analytics Sunday afternoon, and an infORmational session (don’t blame me, that’s the official name) Tuesday from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the INFORMS Center. PBA committee members will be around during coffee breaks as well, to answer questions and encourage volunteering.
Lastly (well, almost), you can visit our web site (and, if you are so inclined, sign up) at any time.
Volunteers: don’t forget to score one of our ribbons for your badge!
