Yesterday I was on a panel celebrating the 20th anniversary for Women in OR/MS with Candi Yano, Margarit Khachatryan, and student liaison Paula (I cannot find her last name!). It has been a great 20 years. I had the pleasure of serving as the VP of Meetings and President over the years.
WORMS is really terrific. I attended the first WORMS lunch (the first catered lunch – it used to be brown bag) at my first INFORMS Annual Meeting. I was blown away by how welcome the lunch made me feel as a woman in our field. I know I’m not alone when it comes to that. WORMS continues to provide a huge benefit to members. And now, WORMS offers mentoring, childcare funding and lactation assistance to new moms, and travel awards to the Analytics meetings. Lots of great stuff!
I had a slide of recommended reading that was helpful in crafting answers to some of the questions asked of the panelists:
- Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg
- Why women still can’t have it all by Anne Marie Slaughter
- Listen to her 2015 interview on Freakonomics
- Read her husband’s followup article
- Closing the Confidence Gap by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman
- Punk Rock OR posts:
There will be a reception celebrating WORMS’s anniversary. Thank you to all the sponsors for making this happen!
Networking/Dessert Reception, Monday, November 2nd 8:00pm-10:00pm, Maggiano’s Little Italy, 1201 Filbert St, Philadelphia, PA 19107
