More on Pro Bono Analytics

by Jim Cochran on November 1st, 2015

On Monday conference attendees will have two opportunities to learn about the new Pro Bono Analytics initiative. The 11:00 – 12:30 session Community-Based Operations Research I will feature four very interesting talks, including Introducing Pro Bono Analytics by David Hunt and Michael Johnson. Both speakers are members of the committee that has created the Pro Bono Analytics initiative (David Hunt is the Chair). Pro Bono Analytics is a new initiative within INFORMS to match INFORMS members willing to volunteer their skills with non-profit organizations working in underserved and developing communities. This talk will give those who are interested in pro bono analytics an opportunity to learn more about this initiative, as will a visit to the initiative’s website (

In the 4:30 – 6:00 session Pro Bono Analytics Panel Discussion, session chair David Hunt will welcome representatives of several prominent Philadelphia area non-profit organizations. This panel discussion will feature Evan Fieldston of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Megan McCoy of the Center in the Park, Angel Rodriguez of the Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha, and Joel Zarrow of the Children’s Literacy Initiative. The panelists will explore the types of problems their organizations face and ways that analytics/OR methods can help. The audience is encouraged to ask questions and suggest ways operations research/OR can be used to resolve these problems.
