FAQ: Data analytics careers in Agriculture
During the past two days, my colleagues and I have had the great pleasure of connecting with many talented students and young professionals. These interactions make attending – and sponsoring – the INFORMS Annual Meeting incredibly rewarding.
During the course of these conversations – with individuals representing diverse backgrounds, experiences and interests – I’ve found myself fielding three questions more frequently than others. As a data science professional working in the field of Agriculture, I can fully understand and appreciate the curiosity that drives these questions and wanted to capture my responses here.
• Question #1: Why are you here?
o The only way we can accomplish our ambitious goal of helping farmers grow more food with fewer resources is by bringing together the brightest minds within the INFORMS community. We need talent in data analytics, AI and operations research to help feed the world.
• Question #2: How is your company using data analytics?
o At Syngenta, data analytics plays an important role in the development of our seed products and digital innovations. We use data analytics in our business in two primary ways: to breed better, higher-yielding seeds and to create digital tools that help farmers make data-driven seed selection and crop management decisions.
• Question #3: Are you hiring?
o Yes, I am happy to say that Syngenta is actively recruiting talent in AI, computer vision, bioinformatics, modeling and operations research. I invite anyone who is interested in learning more about these open positions to visit Booth #50 or visit www.syngentajobs.com.
I look forward to sharing more about the exciting opportunities in the complex, dynamic and rewarding field of Agriculture.
